Eagles Lose Salary Cap Executive Jake Rosenberg

Mar 27, 2024 2:31 PM

Jake Rosenberg will leave the Philadelphia Eagles next month when his contract expires.

Rosenberg is the Eagles' long-time salary cap expert and one of Howie Roseman's closest aides. Rosenberg is leaving the Eagles in hopes of someday becoming a general manager.

“Over a pretty extended period of time I have just thought to myself that if it doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards for me to advance in this league, and have a chance to keep pushing and growing, that at the end of the day, what is involved to do this in terms of a life perspective, it’s not going to be worth it,” Rosenberg told The Inquirer.

Rosenberg and Roseman have been friends since elementary school.

“Over the last 12-plus years, Jake has been so important to our team and a big part of our success,” Roseman said this week at the NFL meetings. “More importantly, he’s a true friend who has built lifelong relationships here, throughout this league and beyond. While I hate to lose him, I wish him nothing but success going forward.

“I wish we could keep him, but he and I have always discussed how important it is to continue to grow and look for new challenges. He deserves the opportunity to become a free agent and whatever he decides is next, I know he’s going to be successful.”

Saquon Barkley First Considered Texans In Free Agency

Mar 27, 2024 1:26 PM

Saquon Barkley made headlines when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month.

However, Barkley admitted on the "New Heights" podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce that the Eagles weren't the first team he considered when he realized he'd be leaving the New York Giants.

"I'm gonna be honest here, that's what the show is for. The first team that had my real interest was Houston [Texans]," the running back said. "I got to communicate with C.J. [Stroud] and a couple of those boys. But this was before you could actually put offers on the table and talk to teams."

The Texans ended up acquiring Joe Mixon in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals and signing him to a contract extension.

NFL Has No Plans To Discuss Ban On Tush Push

Mar 22, 2024 8:33 AM

NFL Executive V.P. of Football Operations Troy Vincent has confirmed that there is no proposal from any team or from the Competition Committee to ban the quarterback sneak play that the Philadelphia Eagles have run so effectively in recent seasons.

There has been some talk that the play could be dangerous because it involves so many big bodies in such a big pile, but Vincent said there's no injury data to support the idea that the play needs to be banned for player safety reasons.

Deadline To Pay Haason Reddick's Roster Bonus Pushed Back

Mar 19, 2024 8:17 AM

Haason Reddick had a $1 million roster bonus due on March 15, but the Philadelphia Eagles haven't paid it yet.

The deadline to pay the bonus was pushed back to April 1 to give the Eagles a little more time to find a trade partner, according to a report.

The deadline could only be moved with Reddick's approval.

A number of teams have shown interest in Reddick, but it remains to be seen whether they're willing to do so on his current contract, where his cap hit would be more than $15 million.

Eagles Deny Violating Tampering Rule With Saquon Barkley

Mar 14, 2024 8:10 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles have denied impermissible contact between general manager Howie Roseman and Saquon Barkley during the negotiating window before the start of free agency.

His former coach at Penn State, James Franklin, suggested Roseman spoke to Barkley directly during the "legal tampering" period, which is not allowed.

"For him now to come back and be able to play within the state, in Philadelphia, he said that was one of the first things that Howie said to him on the phone as part of his sales pitch to him was not only the Philadelphia Eagles and that but obviously the connection with Penn State and the fan base as well," Franklin said.

Teams are not allowed to talk directly to players during the negotiating window unless the player represents himself. An Eagles spokesperson said that all recruiting done by the team is facilitated through the agent.

The NFL declined to comment on whether it is investigating possible impermissible contact.

Barkley agreed to terms with the Eagles on a three-year, $37.75 million contract that includes $26 million fully guaranteed at signing.

Bryce Huff Joins Eagles With Three-Year, $51.1M Deal

Mar 11, 2024 3:24 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have added defensive end Bryce Huff in free agency by agreeing to a three-year, $51.1 million deal, according to sources.

In 2023, Huff led the New York Jets with a career-high 10 sacks and recorded 68 quarterback pressures in 312 pass rushes.

Instead of signing him to a long-term deal last year, the Jets gave Huff a second-round tender as a restricted free agent ($4.3 million) and let him play the season for that amount.
