Tee Higgins has requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a source.
The Bengals placed the franchise tag on the wide receiver earlier this offseason.
Higgins said he hoped to be with the team long term, but he is disappointed that the team has not had any talks about a long-term contract extension since March 2023, per sources.
He was a second round pick in 2020.
Joe Burrow is still sketching out his recovery timeline for surgery to repair a torn wrist ligament in his throwing hand.
But if things continue to go according to plan, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has a date set on when he should be fully cleared this offseason.
"I think middle of May is when I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything," Burrow told ESPN on Sunday. "Over the next month (to) month and a half, we'll kind of decide all those things."
Cincinnati Bengals executive Duke Tobin says the team is much better with Tee Higgins on the roster.
However, unlike last offseason when he emphatically shot down the notion that Higgins could be traded, the Bengals director of player personnel left the door somewhat ajar on Tuesday.
"In terms of our intentions going forward and answering hypotheticals of what could and couldn't come about, I won't get into that, but we feel like we're a better team with him," Tobin said. "The reason we franchised him is because we would like to have him. He's not under contract and it's hard for me to predict all the different scenarios that could happen."
The Bengals officially placed the franchise tag on Higgins on Monday. That guarantees Cincinnati the right to sign Higgins to a one-year deal worth $21.8 million for the upcoming season.

The Cincinnati Bengals are replacing the playing surface at Paycor Stadium this offseason, completing the elimination of slit-film turf from NFL facilities.
Data compiled jointly by the NFL and the NFL Players Association has shown a higher rate of noncontact lower-extremity injuries on slit-film turf than on other synthetic surfaces.
The Bengals and Hamilton County will install a FieldTurf Core system in its place. That surface is also used in stadiums in Atlanta, Carolina, Detroit, New England, New York and Seattle.
The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to place the franchise tag on Tee Higgins ahead of free agency if the two sides are unable to agree on a long-term extension, according to a report.
The Bengals have until March 5 to tag Higgins, who would make $20.7 million for the upcoming season under the tag.
The Cincinnati Bengals are making it clear that they want Tee Higgins back in the fold next season.
The 33rd overall pick in 2020, Higgins will be a free agent this offseason.
The Bengals have some options to retain the wide receiver -- extend him on a long-term deal, franchise tag him for roughly $22 million in 2024, tag and trade him, or simply let him walk in free agency to create cap space.
"We'll see what happens this year," executive Duke Tobin said. "I want Tee Higgins back. Everyone on our team would like to have Tee Higgins back. Again, there's one pie and how big of a slice that takes and what else we can't do because of it, we'll have to determine and we'll see."
The Cincinnati Bengals have promoted quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher to offensive coordinator, according to a report.
Pitcher replaces Brian Callahan, who recently took the head coaching position with the Tennessee Titans.
The 37-year-old has been with the Bengals dating back to 2016 when he broke into the NFL as an offensive assistant.
