It looks as though Hornets forward Jamal Mashburn has three choices on how he wants to handle his abdominal strain, reports Richard Walker of the Gaston Gazette.

If Mashburn chooses to have an open surgery, one that would require reattaching the injured muscle in his abdominal area, it’s possible his season will be over and his career return in some jeopardy. If he chooses arthroscopic surgery, he’ll likely miss up to two months of playing time. And if he chooses simply to rest the injury, it would seem likely he could return within a month’s time. So which will he choose?

"It’s either rest or surgery," Charlotte GM Bob Bass said of Mashburn’s decision. "We’re still gathering information." Mashburn did admit that he first detected the injury before Game 7 of the Hornets series with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, and is now seeking a third opinion on the extent of the injury.

The Hornets maintain that they have options in replacing Mashburn if necessary, including Scott Burrell who was with the team last season and still resides in Charlotte and works out at the Hornets practice facility.
