Matt Geiger, suffering from ongoing knee problems, sounded last night like a man thinking about retiring. Ashley McGeachy of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that before the 76ers' game against the Dallas Mavericks, the 32-year-old Geiger said that his career was "up in the air" and described his plans as "day to day." He did not utter the word retirement, instead repeating the word frustrating over and over. "It's just very frustrating," Geiger said when asked about the possibility of retirement. "I don't know, it's just frustrating. It's even hard to answer that question. It's just very difficult to even think about that." Geiger's knee problems have been well-documented, but they seem to have worsened in the last few days. Geiger played in the first half against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday but did not return for the second half and has not practiced since then. If Geiger retires the Sixers may be eligible for a disabled player exception but RealGM speculates that they wouldn't use it for fear of going further over the luxury tax limit. |
