2005 To Be Vermeil?s Final Season
9th September, 2005 - 6:31 pm
Philadelphia Daily News - Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson does not expect to see coach Dick Vermeil on the Chiefs sideline for the start of the 2006 season.

"I love Dick, but it would be hard for me to ask him to stay on any longer," Peterson said. "He turned 69 last month. Everything I've received from him to date is that he doesn't want to coach after this season, and I respect that."

Peterson sites Vermeil?s wife Carol as a big reason for Dick to get out of coaching.

"I've known Carol since UCLA [where he served as Vermeil's receivers coach in the mid-1970s before following him to the Eagles]," he said. "I talked to her when I first asked him to come here [in 2000], and again 2 years ago (when he signed a 2-year extension).

"They have three kids and 11 grandchildren. They're all on the East Coast and two of them are very close to their home in Chadds Ford. I don't think I can ask Carol to go another tour with her being away from her grandchildren." [READ]
