?It?s a tough situation for him. He?s a fabulous quarterback, and he?s a backup here,? Rosenhaus said. ?And he could start for a lot of other teams. It?s a tough scenario for a guy that?s in his prime. He?s 29 years old, and it?s a scenario where he really needs to be given a chance to blossom, and it?s not going to happen right now.?
?I want to be a starter, and that?s my goal,? Volek said. ?I want to be a starter and have my team and take my team to the Super Bowl. Obviously, this year, I want to be in Nashville and be the best backup I can be.?
Volek spurned offers from Atlanta, Buffalo and Green Bay to sign a five-year, $12 million deal with the Titans in 2004. The Titans do not seem all that enthusiastic about a trade.
?You have to have two good quarterbacks to have a chance to win. We have two good quarterbacks,? Titans coach Jeff Fisher said. ?Why would we give one of them away, unless you had a chance to get a better one? We?re not in the business of developing players for other teams.
