Early College Signings On The Rise

Philadelphia Inquirer - Already, 65 of the top 100 players in the Class of 2008 on Scout.com have made oral commitments. Another recruiting service, Rivals.com, lists 58 commitments among its top 100 prospects. Among the leaders are Notre Dame with 19 early commitments, Georgia with 17, Miami with 16, and Florida State with 15.

"The trend continues to speed up," said Rutgers recruiting coordinator Joe Susan. "People are trying to do their business earlier - certain schools that have the ability to exert pressure on a kid and can get that kid committed. It enables them to understand what their needs are beyond that as they go into the game season.

"From the kids' standpoint, they have the security of that commitment so that if they get injured, most schools will honor that commitment. It's a twofold approach." [READ]
