Eagles' Smith Unhappy With Contract Status

Courier Post - Those who were hoping that L.J. Smith would stay relatively reticent about his contract status -- including the Eagles front office -- were disappointed Tuesday, the very first day of full-squad training camp.

"I'm not a robot. I have feelings. Everybody does," said the fifth-year tight end after his first practice since undergoing surgery for sports hernia back in May. "It's like something's going wrong in your house, you've got to come to work and you've got to perform and do your job."

Talk of Smith's recovery quickly gave way to talk of his contract.

He's the only Eagles starter whose deal expires after the 2007 season, and once negotiations for extension broke off shortly after the end of the 2006 campaign, the writing appeared on the wall. [READ]
