After all the work Marcus Camby put in during the offseason to build his strength and improve his durability, it's an unbelievable stroke of bad luck for him to come down with a case of plantar fasciitis in his left foot that threatens to undermine the Knicks' season before it begins.

When your center - a guy who relies on his hops to make an impact with his rebounding, shot-blocking and spectacular dunks - is taking cortisone shots through the bottom of his takeoff foot, that is not a good sign.

"I don't like [cortisone] because I've seen what it does to people, but whatever it takes to get better," Camby said after the Knicks' 98-67 exhibition victory over a Philadelphia 76ers team that was unrecognizable without five key players who sat out with injuries Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
