| 8th April, 2007 - 1:08 pm | AP - A lawyer for a U. of Toledo running back arrested in a point-shaving scheme said the charges against Harvey "Scooter" McDougle Jr. aren't true.
Attorney James Burdick of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was appointed to represent McDougle on a charge of participating in a bribery scheme to influence college football and basketball games. Burdick said after meeting with the running back Friday, "I'm confident he's been falsely accused."
According to an FBI affidavit, McDougle, 22, a senior from East Cleveland, Ohio, accepted cash, a car, a phone and other merchandise from a Michigan gambler in return for recruiting players to affect the outcome of Rockets football and basketball games.
The gambler, who has not been charged, has been identified as Gary Manni, 50, of Sterling Heights, The Detroit News reported. [READ] |
