Dolphins Ink Schulters To One-Year Contract
28th July, 2005 - 6:07 pm
ESPN - The Miami Dolphins signed unrestricted free agent safety Lance Schulters to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Schulters, 30, was released by the Titans in mid-June because of salary cap considerations. He had played three seasons with Tennessee and had three years remaining on his contract. He had been due a $2.75 million base salary for 2005, and carried a cap charge of $4.2 million.

Details of the one-year deal Schulters signed in Miami, where he visited last month with Dolphins officials and coaches, were not immediately available.

Depending on the condition of a left foot injury that sidelined him for all but three games in 2004, Schulters could quickly challenge for a starting job in the Miami secondary. The current starter at strong safety, Tebucky Jones, appears set. Current free safety Travares Tillman, however, has just seven starts in five seasons and, while practicing, is still not fully recovered from a knee injury sustained in mini-camp last month. [READ]
