Redskins Rework Brunell's Contract; Release Fauria

AP - The Redskins finished restructuring Mark Brunell's contract Wednesday, creating more space under the salary cap while ensuring he will return to the team next season.

The team also re-signed offensive lineman Mike Pucillo and released tight end Christian Fauria.

The moves were part of a furious final push to prepare for the start of free agency Friday, when the team is expected to begin its yearly aggressive courtship of top players to fill its needs. The team has been talking to several veterans about renegotiating their deals, while others could be released Thursday.

"There's a lot up in the air right now," coach Joe Gibbs said. "Most of it, to be truthful, is up in the air." [READ]
