According to the Associated Press in the opening game of the Goodwill Games, the defending champion Americans overwhelmed the Mexicans 132-58, as Rashard Lewis led the way with 21 points and Wally Szczerbiak added 20. The total points and the 74-point margin of victory were the biggest in Goodwill Games history.

Early in the third quarter, the Americans scored on three consecutive dunks -- a spectacular alley-oop by Jermaine O'Neal, a reverse by Shawn Marion and a one-handed dunk by Szczerbiak. Overall, they finished with 13 dunks.

Szczerbiak also was a member of the winning 1998 team and led the Americans in scoring with a 17.2 average.

On Monday, he was 8-of-9 from the field and scored 18 points in the first half. Baron Davis also had a strong game for the Americans with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting, 12 assists and five steals. Mike Miller added 16 points and Jason Terry had 15 for the Americans, who play their next game Tuesday against Argentina.
