Mike Brown, owner and de facto general manager of the Cincinnati Bengals, wanted the club to draft Colin Kaepernick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Bengals selected A.J. Green in the first round and new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden was in favor of Andy Dalton. Dalton ran a similar offense at TCU.

Both players remained on the board in the second round when the Bengals picked.

“I like this guy,” Brown said of Kaepernick. “He has unusual mobility.”

“I want Dalton,” Gruden said. “He fits what I want to do.”

“Are you sure?” Brown asked.
