| 11th July, 2005 - 4:39 pm |  ESPN - Former Miami Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman, who resigned from the franchise early last month, has interviewed for a position in the Atlanta Falcons personnel department.
The title and responsibilities of the job for which Spielman is a candidate are not yet known but, given his tenure and background in the league, the position almost certainly would have to be a prominent one. There may be other candidates for the job as well.
In a surprising move, the Falcons last month dismissed vice president of player personnel Ron Hill with a year remaining on his contract. Earlier in the offseason, assistant general manager Tim Ruskell left the Falcons to become president of the Seattle Seahawks.
The departure of Spielman from the Dolphins five weeks ago was not unexpected, since there had been considerable speculation that first-year coach Nick Saban wanted to have a personnel chief that he chose, rather than one he inherited. The Dolphins subsequently hired former Seattle and New Orleans Saints general manager Randy Mueller, who served three years as an ESPN.com analyst, to replace Spielman. [READ] |
