Inaccurate, said Branch's agent, Jason Chayut, on Thursday.
The latest offer made to the wide receiver by the team was for four years and more than $19 million, with a $4-million signing bonus and a $4-million option bonus, according to Chayut.
But the devil's in the details. Branch has a year left on his current contract. Asked last night if the four-year deal would run through 2010, which would mean Branch would play this season as contracted and then be committed to four additional seasons, Chayut said no. The deal expires in 2009. So that would be a three-year extension worth more than $19 million and $8 million in overall bonus money. Plus Branch would be a free agent again before he turns 30.
The problem with every offer the Patriots make to Chayut is that he divides the overall worth by four years, the Patriots divide it by three. [READ] |
