Schulters To Meet With Miami; Detroit, SF And Atlanta Also Interested
23rd June, 2005 - 7:37 pm
ESPN - Safety Lance Schulters, arguably one of the top players remaining in the free-agent market, will meet Thursday evening with Dolphins officials.

Schulters, 30, missed 13 games in 2004 because of a foot injury but is said to be healthy again. If that is the case, the seven-year veteran would be an upgrade for the Dolphins and several other teams that have indicated an interest in him.

In 91 games, including 76 starts, Schulters has 412 tackles, 15 interceptions 43 passes defensed, 5? sacks, three forced fumbles and two recoveries. As recently as 2002, he posted six interceptions. Schulers has gone 22 straight games without an interception but is still regarded as a top-flight safety, assuming he has recovered from his '04 foot injury.

A former Hofstra standout, Schulters spent his first four seasons in San Francisco, where the 49ers chose him in the fourth round of the 1998 draft. He signed with Tennessee as a free agent in 2002, netting a six-year, $20 million contract.

The Titans released Schulters after the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on a restructured contract. He still had three years left on his contract with the Titans, at base salaries of $2.75 million (2005), $3.65 million (2006) and $4 million (2007).

Detroit, San Francisco and possibly Atlanta are among the other teams believed to have varying degrees of interest in Schulters. [READ]
