49ers Plan Retirement Ceremony For Rice
20th July, 2006 - 6:24 pm
Oakland Tribune - The 49ers and Jerry Rice are working on plans for a retirement ceremony for the NFL's all-time leading receiver.

The 49ers are hoping to make it a ceremony that appeals to its long-time fans.

An announcement could come in August, according to team spokesman Aaron Salkin, with the possibility of a ceremony at halftime of the 49ers' home game against Seattle on Nov.19.

"We're trying to do that," Salkin said Wednesday. "We've been in talks with Jerry."

Rice, 43, said he would like to sign a one-day deal and joked that he would like to play in the game.

"Why not?" he said. "Sign with them for a day and just give the fans a big 'Thank you' for all the support they have given me over the years, all the inspiration to go out there and play my best football." [READ]
