Gates' Contract Good For Davis

Matt Maiocco/CSN Bay Area - Vernon Davis is seeking a five-year, $40 million contract from the 49ers.

Rival tight end Antonio Gates became the richest tight end in NFL history by signing a new deal with the Chargers on Wednesday, which helps the case of Davis.

Chronicle Live host Greg Papa asked Davis on Tuesday whether he expects to have a contract extension agreed upon before the start of the season.

"I'm sure it'll get done, but I can't go into camp worrying about it," Davis said. "I have to move on and try to get better." [READ]
