Collins Wants To Return

SF Chronicle - Kerry Collins wants to return: Once lauded for his error-free play earlier this season, Collins has tossed eight interceptions and lost four fumbles in his past five games, part of many reasons why the team has dropped four consecutive games.

Backup Marques Tuiasosopo's poor play in a 26-10 road loss to the Jets in Week 13 eventually put Collins back in the starting quarterback spot. But his future with the team -- in part, because of a $12.9 million cap figure for 2006 -- remains in doubt.

Collins, however, said he wants to return next season.

"Certainly, I'm aware of my contract status and it would be hard to think that I would stay here under the current contract I have," Collins conceded. "But I'd like to be here. I'd like to be part of turning this thing around.

"It's purely speculative to think what's going to happen right now. But we'll play these next two weeks out, go into the offseason and see what happens." [READ]
