| 14th November, 2005 - 2:39 am |  NFL.com - With an MRI scheduled for Monday, Bears running back Cedric Benson was hoping for the best after exiting Sunday's 17-9 victory over the 49ers with a sprained right knee.
The first-round draft pick was carted off the field with 5:52 left in the second quarter after his leg twisted underneath him while he was being tackled by 49ers lineman Isaac Sopoaga.
"I feel confident that I didn't tear anything," said Benson, who told reporters that he had never previously been knocked out of a game with an injury. "I don't know how these things work. I don't know if guys are still able to walk after things like this, but it doesn't really feel that bad."
Rookie running back Cedric Benson has rushed for 164 yards on just 29 carries in his last three games.
Coach Lovie Smith was also cautiously optimistic after the game, saying "we think it's just a knee sprain right now, so hopefully we'll get him back before long."
Benson admitted that the injury may have looked worse than it actually was, but he was among those who squirmed when he saw a replay of his leg bending awkwardly under his body.
"It made me cringe as much as everybody else," Benson said in the locker room after the game. "It didn't look too good right there, but I've been blessed with some flexibility and just thankful that I'm able to stand here right now." [READ] |
