Porter Says Athletes Have Right To Bear Arms
10th December, 2008 - 11:03 am
South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Dolphins' linebacker Joey Porter came to the defense of Plaxico Burress recently and defended an athlete's right to bear arms.

"Until you've been in a situation where you've been robbed at gun point, or you've had a gun waived in your face, or been car jacked, you really don't know what it feels like," Porter said during an interview with ESPN that will air on Wednesday.

Porter, a victim of a shooting outside a Denver nightclub five years ago, admitted he's a gun owner.

"For a person to carry a gun you're not carrying a gun to show that, 'Oh, I'm tough.' It's nothing but safety," Porter said. "After the first time you've been robbed or something like that, the first thing that goes in your mind for the next time, for the rest of your life is I'd rather be caught with [a gun] than without."
