Both Peyton Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson have coasted up until this point in the voting, neither having been challenged by their two previous opponents. That?s not likely to remain the case when the dust settles on this quarterfinal match-up. Would you rather start your franchise with one of the league?s best quarterbacks, or one of the game?s best running backs? Some of you are likely to lose sleep over this blockbuster battle...

The Case For Peyton

If you?re looking for a quarterback whose head is 110% into the game of football, Manning is your man. Peyton is the best pure quarterback in all of football, and he?s still only a season removed from breaking Dan Marino?s single-season touchdown record. He?s the smartest quarterback on the field, and you can never doubt that he?s giving his all to will his team to victory. He also makes some pretty funny commercials.

The Case Against Peyton

The only real case you can make against Peyton is that he has difficulty winning in the ?big game.? As great as he has been in his nine-year career he?s yet to make a trip to the Super Bowl and he?s not getting any younger. Manning can also tend to over think things on the football field, particularly when he?s blitzed. He reads a defense like no other before the snap, but sometimes he thinks too much and doesn?t feel the game.

The Case For Tomlinson

Tomlinson has never run for fewer than 1,200 yards and scored less than ten touchdowns in any one of his five seasons in the NFL. That?s a pretty impressive statistic. Add in the fact that he?s also caught one hundred passes in a season, and that he threw three touchdown passes in 2005, and you have yourself a well-rounded franchise cornerstone.

The Case Against Tomlinson

He?s still young so it?s hard to form a legitimate case against Tomlinson at this point in his career, though you could make an argument that Antonio Gates or Phillip Rivers could have just as easily been the San Diego representative. The only thing I could come up with against LT is that the Chargers have run him too much too early, and he could have a shorter career than most elite running backs do.
