Julius Peppers is among the NFL?s most talented young defensive players, and Reggie Bush is among the league?s most promising rookies. Peppers has proven his worth in the NFL over his short career, while Bush has yet to prove that he?s worth all the hype. Given the choice, which of these two would you select to start your very own NFL franchise?

The Case For Peppers

Peppers is one of the best athletes in the NFL and that?s a scary thought when you consider the fact that he?s 6'7" and weighs 283 pounds. In addition to being one of the best defensive ends in the league, he also anchors one of football?s toughest defenses and has appeared in a Super Bowl in his short career. He has 40.5 sacks in four seasons, and had a incredible rookie total of a dozen sacks in 2002 when he played in only twelve games. If you?re picking a franchise defensive end, Peppers is your man.

The Case Against Peppers

As good as Peppers is, he doesn?t play as popular of a position as his opponent does. He does have an effect on every play he?s a part of but a lot of times his work goes completely unnoticed by the casual football fan. I?m also worried that opposing linemen may have figured out his secrets as his stats were lower in every solo defensive category last season than they were in 2004.

The Case For Bush

Reggie Bush is one of the most hyped rookies in the history of the NFL, and rightfully so. He dazzled his way to the Heisman Trophy in his last season at USC, and just fell short of winning a national title against Vince Young and his Texas Longhorns. Bush is a freakish athlete whose athleticism is only matched by his blazing speed and cool charisma. He is also extremely versatile with his ability to catch passes when lined up in the slot. He is the kind of player who could end up winning games with performances that everyone discusses at the water cooler on Monday mornings.

The Case Against Bush

He might be the most athletic of all NFL running backs, but Reggie?s yet to prove that he can be durable. At USC, he shared carries with LenDale White, a big workhorse back, who most often received the ball over Bush near the end zone. The question remains as to whether Bush can carry a full rushing load in the NFL, and whether or not, he?s durable enough to keep going after he?s been tackled thirty times.

The choice is yours - Who would you pick to start an NFL franchise with?
