One could describe this second round battle as old versus new, veteran against rookie, or traditional meets unconventional. Either way Peyton Manning and Vince Young are too completely different quarterbacks, and if we?re lucky we?ll get to see Manning and Young battle each other this season as opponents in the AFC South.

The Case For Manning

If you?re looking for a quarterback whose head is 110% into the game of football, Manning is your man. Peyton is the best pure quarterback in all of football, and he?s still only a season removed from breaking Dan Marino?s single-season touchdown record. He?s the smartest quarterback on the field, and you can never doubt that he?s giving his all to will his team to victory.

The Case Against Manning

The only real case you can make against Peyton is that he has difficulty winning in the ?big game.? As great as he has been in his nine-year career he?s yet to make a trip to the Super Bowl and he?s not getting any younger. Manning also can tend to over think things on the football field, particularly when he?s blitzed. He reads a defense like no other before the snap, but sometimes he thinks too much and doesn?t feel the game.

The Case For Young

One thing you can?t say about Vince Young is that he can?t win the ?big game?. Against USC in the NCAA Title game this past January Young pulled his fellow Longhorns up on his back and carried them to an incredible victory on the nation?s greatest stage. He entered the NFL Draft with high hopes this spring, and was selected by Tennessee with the third overall pick. He has a lot to prove, and that might be just enough to will Vince to greatness.

The Case Against Young

The absence of NFL experience for Vince will hurt him in this match-up against one of the game?s greatest talents. Also, the fact that Young might not even begin the season as the Titans first-string quarterback could cause some people to think he?s not ready for the NFL just yet. Mastering an NFL play book has been a concern of many around the league, and his sidearm throwing style could prevent him from ever becoming an elite quarterback in the NFL.
