Our third match-up is between a young quarterback and a veteran line-backer. Lewis is a former Super Bowl Champion and one of the NFL?s most feared defensive threats, while Palmer is one of football?s most promising young talents.

The Case for Lewis

Lewis is a proven defensive threat. He has been a fixture of Baltimore?s stellar defense for several years now. This past May he was inducted into Miami?s Sports Hall of Fame, which was quite an honor for the former Hurricane. Aging or not, he still instills fear in the hearts of opposing players every time he takes the field.

The Case against Lewis

Ray isn?t getting any younger. At 31 years of age, he?s getting old fast, and because he?s not as young as he used to be, he?s not staying healthy. Last season, he played in only six games for the Ravens, and that?s not enough for a player to be considered a franchise cornerstone.

The Case for Palmer

Palmer had a breakout season in 2005, throwing thirty-two touchdowns passes and well over 3,800 yards for the Bengals. If it hadn?t been for the knee injury he suffered in the playoff against the Steelers, Cincinnati may very well have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl against Seattle. Carson will be out to prove doubters wrong in 2006 as he looks to pick up where he left off in 2005, despite his reconstructed knee.

The Case against Palmer

There?s really only one thing against Palmer at this point in his career, and that?s if he can return to 100% after the severe knee injury he suffered last January. While reports do say that Palmer has made great strides in his recovery, there?s always a chance he?ll hit a roadblock before the Bengals open of their 2006 campaign.
