The opening first round match-up is a battle between two of the AFC East?s biggest names. Both are talented players that any NFL GM would love to have on their roster, but given the chance to pick just one to start an NFL franchise, which would you pick?

The Case For McGahee

Despite a little slide in touchdown production in 2005 (from 13 in 2004 down to 5 last year), McGahee remains one of football?s elite running backs of this generation. He?s both young and talented, and doesn?t appear to have reached his ceiling yet.

Heading into his fourth season in the NFL, Willis is coming off of a 2005 season in which he disappointed with only a handful of touchdowns, but totaled five games with one hundred yards or more and was truly the workhorse of the Buffalo offense.

The Case Against McGahee

The injury he sustained in the Fiesta Bowl when he was playing for the Hurricanes is still etched in most minds. The shelf life for an NFL running back is very short even without that kind of trauma, so despite the fact that he is not even 25, the body breakdown could begin within year two of having him on your team.

Buffalo selected him 23rd overall in the 2003 Draft, which was considered a huge gamble, could you risk making him your franchise player?

The Case For Culpepper

Traditionalists would make the case for Culpepper simply because he?s a quarterback, and the old adage says that every good franchise starts with a solid field general. This isn?t your father?s Joe Montana though. He has the body of a tight end and this makes him especially valuable in short yardage and goal line situations.

The Case Against Culpepper

Culpepper?s stock has fallen a little bit due to the severity of the knee injury he suffered during his last game as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. He is entering the second phase of his career where he will be more of a pocket QB. Assuming he?s healthy, he?s one of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL.

The choice is yours ? Which would you select to start an NFL franchise with?
