It's rather strange that this piece has ties to both the Broncos and a wide receiver, but we aren't talking about the summer-long Brandon Marshall saga.

Friday's battle pits Broncos offensive tackle Ryan Clady against Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

They are entering their second and third seasons in the NFL, respectively, and both went to state colleges. A Saturday game between the Boise State Broncos and the LSU Tigers would be intriguing, but we'll have to settle for a matchup between two of their most famous alum.

Why Clady Is A Franchise Player

Many felt as though Clady would need a good amount of seasoning before he reached an elite level with the Broncos, but he got there almost immediately in his rookie season. Before I go on, I can't ignore the irony in the fact that he went from playing for the Broncos in college to playing for the Broncos in the pros.

Clady is already considered to be among the best offensive tackles in the NFL, and was named to the league's All-Pro Second Team after his rookie campaign.

He allowed less than a full sack in 2008, finishing behind Matt Ryan and Chris Johnson in the voting for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. He can make an entire line better, and helped do just that in Denver.

Why Bowe Is A Franchise Player

Bowe is one of the NFL's best receivers, but his presence in Kansas City and their lack of a solid starting quarterback has left him shy of the national spotlight.

He possesses great speed, has strong hands, runs good routes and is strong physically. He grabbed 70 passes for 995 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season (2007) and bumped those numbers up slightly to 1,022 yards and seven scores last year.

Matt Cassel, presumably Kansas City's new starting quarterback, won't have Tony Gonzalez to throw safely to, but Bowe can be somewhat of a safety value.
