Much of the Patriots' success has come from finding the right guys for their system, whether it is via trades (Randy Moss), free agent signings (Adalius Thomas) and the draft (Tom Brady). As far as so-called dynasties go, Bill Belichick's team doesn't have the pure star wattage of the 90's Cowboys or 80's Niners, even with Tom Brady at quarterback.

Various Notes

- New England's success in finding Tom Brady in the sixth round and Matt Cassel in the seventh jumps off the page. These types of hits, however, give other teams the kind of false belief that it is a repeatable method, but very few NFL starting quarterbacks weren't first rounders. There are a lot more Kliff Kingsburys and Rohan Daveys out there than Brady and Cassel.

- Much of the Patriots' line on both sides of the ball were drafted with high picks like Damien Woody, Matt Light, Vince Wilfork and Logan Mankins.

- The Woody, Kevin Faulk draft was in 1999 before Belichick arrived.

- New England lost their own first round pick in 2008, but had the 49ers' pick from a previous trade and they hit a homer on Jerod Mayo who was the Defensive ROY in 2008.
