Jeff Ireland and Bill Parcells inherited a team low on talent and filled with draft misses, but have quickly turned the team around with a sum greater than their collective parts.

Various Notes

- Picking quarterbacks in the second round in consecutive drafts (2007 and 2008) is not something any franchise wants to make a habit of, but they haven't really tried to build the position through the draft in recent years before that, with 2001 being the most recent year in which a pick was used on a QB.

- The play of Chad Pennington and the very promising rookie season by Jake Long made the decision to pass on Matt Ryan a non-issue for now.

- The tackle to Long's right, Vernon Carey, is also a former first round pick but he was inconsistent in 2008.

- The 2009 season will be a defining one for first rounders Ted Ginn and Jason Allen, who still have a ton of promise but have been relatively disappointing.

- In four draft since 1999, Miami didn't have a first round pick.
