With a flawless track record in the first round, Bill Polian has put together one of the most consistent teams over the past decade. A lot of that stability comes from having Peyton Manning under center, but by frequently bucking conventional wisdom in the draft, he has built an incredibly talented supporting cast.

Various Notes

- The Colts have been remarkably excellent with their first round picks and have done well in seasons when they didn't have a first round pick, such as Bob Sanders in 2004 and Mike Pollak in 2008.

- Polian gave up his 2008 first round pick in order to get Tony Ugoh, but he will be their left tackle indefinitely and then they got Pollak the next year in the second round again.

- When it looked like they would clearly go defensive in 2001, they draft Reggie Wayne with their first round pick despite the presence of Marvin Harrison and they now are able to seamlessly bridge the gap of Harrison's decline.

- A tight end of Dallas Clark's skill level would be a reach for most teams, but he has become indispensable to Manning.

- Ricky Williams was the can't-miss running back in 1999, but instead thought Edgerrin James was the right back for their system.
