A report from ESPN has confirmed that Cardinals' wide receiver Anquan Boldin is still at odds with the team over his current contract dispute.

Boldin told Rachel Nichols on Thursday the chances of him staying with Arizona are "very slim." Although Boldin has two years left on his current contract, and the Cardinals appear to be unlikely to re-negotiate at this time, a player of Boldin's stature being unhappy poses a serious problem for the team's front office coming off their first appearance in a Super Bowl in 75 years. If this matter continues to be a problem, and cannot be resolved, count on the Giants as a serious suitor for his services.

Boldin, who recorded 89 catches for 1,038 yards with 11 touchdowns, was a key reason for the Cardinals success and like counterpart Larry Fitzgerald he is a top flight receiver who undoubtedly made Kurt Warner's job easier.

Boldin was also quoted in USA Today as saying, "I don't think the relationship can be repaired with the organization. It takes more than, 'Well, we did you wrong and we'll pay you this.' It's not about the money. It was always about the principle, guys being true to their word. I guess I was expected to uphold my end of the bargain, and it wasn't reciprocated."

This recent development bodes well for the New York Giants, who as I noted in a previous piece, could look to Boldin as the answer to their current dilemma on what to do should Plaxico Burress not be available for the 2009 season. The Giants need a playmaker as evidenced by their collapse in the aftermath of Burress incident and if this truly is the end for Boldin in Arizona, he would be at the top of the Giants' wish list as this story continues to get more and more intriguing. Boldin's comments may force the Cardinals hand to test his trade value and take away some of their leverage now that Boldin has come out and made these negative comments.
