The NFL is living in a golden age of quarterbacks where the one common denominator of winning teams is a strong passing game.
We are coming off a season in which four quarterbacks had a passer rating over 100.0 and 12 were over 90.0. In 1996, for example, Steve Young led the NFL with a 97.2 passer rating and Brett Favre was the only other quarterback over 90.0.
In Week 1 of this season, there were 11 quarterbacks to finish their games with a passer rating over 100.0 and an additional three had ratings over 90.0.
The quarterback position has imported several high draft picks over the past few years as Matthew Stafford, Sam Bradford and Cam Netwon are entrenched as starters after being picked first overall in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 drafts.
Below is the list of Week 1 starters from the current season, along with their overall draft rankings (*undrafted players are assigned with the number following the final pick of their respective draft).
