The first round of our first annual ?Be An NFL GM Contest? is over, and we couldn?t be happier with the results. In all, we tallied nearly 5,000 votes for the sixteen match-ups we featured in our opening round. After nearly four weeks of voting, we have narrowed our field of thirty-two possible NFL franchise cornerstones down to just sixteen.

If you followed the first round closely welcome back for another round of voting, and if you?re new to the contest - Don?t worry ! If you want your inner-NFL GM voice heard, and you want a chance to win an NFL Retro Jersey courtesy of DistantReplays.com (a $300 value) all you have to do is make sure you check out RealGMFootball.com daily for each second round match-up!

Each day, you will have the chance to e-mail me with your prediction regarding that day?s match-up. For example, one of the second round match-ups will pit Cincinnati?s Carson Palmer against Pittsburgh?s Ben Roethlisberger. In order to enter yourself in the running for the NFL Retro Jersey ,all you?d have to do that day is e-mail me at Andrew.Perna@RealGM.com with your daily prediction! The only rule we have is that you only enter yourself in the contest once per day.

So who?s left in the running to become RealGM?s 2006 Franchise Cornerstone? Believe it or not there are quite a few fan favorites who aren?t in the running anymore. Forget seeing the likes of Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, or Randy Moss crowned as the winner of our inaugural NFL GM Contest, each were eliminated in the first round.

As you might expect, the dominant players were the quarterbacks and running backs, while positions like wide receiver, offensive linemen, and tight end are not represented in the second round. Two rookies advanced to the second round, and neither was top overall pick Mario Williams. Williams, who was eliminated by Peyton Manning, will have to watch Reggie Bush and Vince Young in the second round as he collects his lucrative paychecks from the Texans.
The greatest margin of victory in the first round was enjoyed by Larry Johnson, who won 95% of the vote over Denver wide receiver Javon Walker. Peyton Manning had the second largest margin of victory earning 90% of the votes against Mario Williams.

The closest margin of victory belonged to Clinton Portis who eliminated Donovan McNabb with just 52% of the votes that were cast. In my opinion, the most surprising result in the first round was Julius Peppers victory over Michael Vick. I agree with the result, but I thought Vick?s star power would carry him to at least the second round. My fault, I never should have underestimated the brains and savvy of our RealGM readers.

Second Round
Aug 7: Daunte Culpepper, MIA vs. Tom Brady, NE
Aug 8: Carson Palmer, CIN vs. Ben Roethlisberger, PIT
Aug 9: Peyton Manning, IND vs. Vince Young, TEN
Aug 10: Larry Johnson, KC vs. LaDainian Tomlinson, SD
Aug 11: Eli Manning, NYG vs. Clinton Portis, WSH
Aug 14: Brian Urlacher, CHI vs. A.J. Hawk, GB
Aug 15: Julius Peppers, CAR vs. Reggie Bush, NO
Aug 16: Edgerrin James, ARI vs. Shaun Alexander, SEA

I want to thank you all for making the first round a huge success, and here?s to hoping the second round is even better!
