Unlike the previous two weeks, Week 13 had no shocking upsets, but instead provided an entertaining slate of rivalry games. These games not only meant a lot of the schools faithful, but also to the teams' postseason berths. Below are three teams that came out on top against a longstanding rival, but only two kept their BCS dreams alive.
Alabama – Needing a big win in the Iron Bowl to all but wrap up a spot in the BCS National Championship Game, Alabama did just that. Led by Trent Richardson's possible Heisman clinching game, The Crimson Tide dominated Auburn in all facets of the Trench Counter; they more than doubled the Tigers first downs, yard per pass and run, and committed half the amount of turnovers and penalty yards. Alabama regained the 2nd spot in our rankings, identical to their BCS ranking.

USC – The week after upsetting one of the best teams in the nation, USC pummeled Pac-12 rival UCLA 50-0 behind Matt Barkley's 6 touchdowns. Similar to Alabama, the Trojans won every aspect of the Trench Counter, most impressively by averaging nearly 8 yards per rush. Although USC finished the season at an impressive 10-2 and 25th in the Trench Counter rankings, they will not participating in the postseason due to NCAA imposed sanctions.

Michigan – Behind Denard Robinson's legs, arm and 5 touchdowns, Michigan continued their roll in Week 13 over bitter rival Ohio State, vaulting them to number 6 in the TC Rankings. Despite an impressive first season under Brady Hoke, the Wolverine's mid-season loss to Michigan State prevented a Big 10 Championship game berth. All hope is not lost; if Michigan can somehow creep up into the top 14 of the BCS Standings, they may be the most attractive at-large team for a BCS Bowl bid.

The Trench Counter formula, which the below rankings are solely based upon, creates a completely objective examination. The formula accounts for yards per carry, yards per pass, first downs, turnovers and penalties. It attempts to identify which team controls the line of scrimmage, controls the trenches.

The true intention of this type of ranking system is to identify teams that may be over or underrated.
