Matt Jones Wants Washington To Release Or Trade Him

Jun 1, 2017 8:27 AM

Matt Jones isn't in the Washington's plans, which is why he hasn't yet attended their voluntary workout sessions.

The running back wants to be released or traded. Washington has no plans to release Jones.

Jones opened the 2016 season as Washington's starter, rushing for 460 yards in the first seven games. He was sidelined by a knee injury, then lost his starting job to rookie free agent Rob Kelley. He was inactive for the team's final nine games.

Kirk Cousins On Long-Term Deal: We'll See What Happens In July

May 28, 2017 12:49 AM

Kirk Cousins says he's in a "good place" with his current contract with Washington.

The quarterback's long-term status with Washington has yet to be addressed. The deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign a long-term contract is July 15.

"I've had very positive conversations with everybody involved throughout the process this offseason," Cousins said. "I feel like everybody is on the same page and I really have nothing further to add from what's already been said. I feel good about where I'm at, where this team is at, where my teammates are at so now it's a matter of trying to move forward and we'll see what happens come July 15. It will be a telling date as it was last summer."

Kirk Cousins, Washington Have 'Constant Dialogue' On Contract

May 23, 2017 11:53 AM

Washington remains engaged with Kirk Cousins on a long-term contract.

While Bruce Allen remains optimistic, he knows there might not be much movement for another two months.

Washington and Cousins have until July 15th to agree upon a long-term deal.

"There’s been constant dialogue," Allen said at the Redskins Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament at Army Navy Country Club. "I don’t want to say it’s every day. I do believe the July 15 league deadline will be the driving point, but it’s ongoing."

Cousins will make $24 million in guaranteed money this season if he plays under the franchise tag.

"I'm always an optimist," he said. "Even Kirk said it, there's a lot of players in the league on one-year deals. It’s the nature of it. We’d like to get a long-term deal and he should want to get a long-term deal."

Jay Gruden: Chris Thompson Is NFL's Best Third-Down Back

May 23, 2017 8:58 AM

Jay Gruden is pretty confident in Washington Redskins' running back Chris Thompson.

Thompson had 68 carries for 356 yards and three touchdowns and 49 catches for 349 yards and two touchdowns last season.

"I think Chris Thompson's role is big," Gruden said. "When you're talking about third downs, that's the most important down in football. There's nobody better as a third-down back in my opinion than Chris. He's got a huge role on this football team."

May 8, 2017 4:58 PM

Scot McCloughan is auctioning off items on eBay that he wore during his two years with the Washington Redskins, including an autographed camo hat.

The Redskins fired McCloughan on March 9 after an offseason of tension, according to reports.

The items he is auctioning off will benefit the team's foundation.

Jessica McCloughan told The Washington Post that: "When it's all said and done, Scot and I are still grateful that we were able to come here, so why not give back to the people that brought us here."
