Washington Unlikely To Get More Than Mid-Round Pick For Robert Griffin

Nov 30, 2014 10:54 AM

Robert Griffin III is "highly unlikely" to return to Washington next season, according to the Washington Post.

Daniel Snyder and Bruce Allen have supported Griffin but their blowout loss in Week 11 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a "watershed moment."

Griffin is set to earn a reasonable $3.27 million in the final year of his rookie contract, with a decision on his 2016 option due by May 3.

Washington could elect to trade Griffin, though several NFL executives told Albert Breer that his trade value is likely at a conditional mid-round pick.

"He's a car that's been driven off the lot; also, the dynamics of his contract drive his price down," one NFC general manager told Breer. "The biggest keys -- QBs go for more than other positions, and his contract is ticking down to the last year, unless a team wants to pick up that option."

An AFC executive added: "On the high end, the team asks for a two and settles for a third or maybe a fourth."

Washington sent three first round picks and a second round pick to the St. Louis Rams in 2012 for Griffin.

The San Francisco 49ers traded Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for a second round pick in 2013 and a conditional pick in 2014 that became a second rounder.

Washington To Start Colt McCoy In Week 13

Nov 26, 2014 11:34 PM

Washington plans on starting Colt McCoy at quarterback instead of Robert Griffin III in Week 13.

While Griffin is not a part of Washington's plan for Sunday's game, he still appears to be a significant part of their long-term plan, per another source.

Washington hired head coach Jay Gruden in large part for his stellar work with quarterbacks, and the team is convinced coaching, cash and patience can help turn Griffin back into the player that won the Heisman and then the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Every NFC Rival Tried To Hire Oregon DC After Chip Kelly Went To Eagle

Nov 28, 2014 11:03 AM

Every team in the NFC East tried ot hire former Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti after the Philadelphia Eagles hired Chip Kelly in 2013

"I have been asked by everybody in the NFC East," Aliotti, now retired, told The Oregonian on Monday. "The Giants asked me to come back when Chip got the first job. I didn't feel right doing that. Some teams have called when they're getting ready to play the Eagles and they call and have certain questions on the thing. Unless I know the guy and he's a good friend, I don't get involved with that."

Aliotti was coordinator at Oregon from 1999 until 2013 when he retired.

Jay Gruden is prepared to bench Robert Griffin III in Washington's Week 12 game at the San Francisco 49ers if he struggles.

Gruden reportedly is interested in putting Colt McCoy back in at quarterback.

Gruden's criticism has cited a breakdown in fundamentals, Griffin's inability to overcome adversity and even that he has been "coddled."

Gruden: Clock's Ticking For Robert Griffin III

Nov 27, 2014 12:10 AM

Robert Griffin III has been put on notice by Jay Gruden that he needs to play better now that he's in the second half of his third NFL season.

"He's auditioned long enough," Gruden told NFL.com. "Clock's ticking. He's gotta play.

"We'll see. ... We want Robert to excel, we really do. But the last two games, it hasn't been very good, anywhere. We gotta play better around him. And the biggest thing for us as playcallers, and for him, we just have to come together and jell with plays he's comfortable with. That takes time. But we don't have a lot of time."

Jay Gruden Apologizes For Calling Out Robert Griffin III

Nov 27, 2014 7:31 AM

Jay Gruden said on Monday after Washington's latest loss that Robert Griffin III "needs to worry about himself and not everybody else."

Gruden walked the comments back on Wednesday.

"I think it was a mistake on my part," Gruden said. "After a loss like that, we're very disappointed in the way we played, and the question came up about how we played, and all that stuff from that. I just answered with the first thing that came to my mind, and sometimes the first thing that comes to your mind isn't the smartest thing. It wasn't the right thing to do on my part."

Griffin: Washington Players Getting Closer As A Family

Nov 23, 2014 8:05 AM

Robert Griffin III said his popularity with teammates isn't a chief concern as Washington tries to make a push toward the playoffs.

“I know it’s been pushed and pushed and pushed, and everyone thinks [the rumors of division are] from the inside out,” Griffin said. “But we’re strong in that locker room. We feel like we can’t let any of these reports or anything divide us. Right now, we have to be responsible for what we do. Right now, we’re 3-6, and I think everybody in this room knows it. We have a hunger to win.”

DeSean Jackson addressed the team following Washington's loss to the Minnesota Vikings and expressed confidence in Griffin.

Griffin took his teammates’ statements and the responses from others in the locker room as signs the team is coming together.

“I mean, that’s what teammates do,” Griffin said. “That’s what a family is. I think we’re getting closer as a family on this team, and what DeSean said, like we said before, is just addressing the few."

ESPN Stands By Reporting On Griffin

Nov 17, 2014 12:13 AM

Jay Gruden accused ESPN of “amateurish” reporting for indicating that Robert Griffin III has "alienated himself" from his Washington teammates.

The bigger problem comes from Britt McHenry’s characterization of teammates becoming loud in the locker room to disrupt Griffin’s efforts to talk to reporters on Friday. Multiple other reporters who were present for the incident contend that the players weren’t acting out against Griffin but against recent efforts by the team to expand media availability.

ESPN has stood by the reporting.

Owner, GM Wanted RGIII Start As He Alienates Himself From Teammates

Nov 23, 2014 11:00 AM

The decision for Washington to start Robert Griffin III over Colt McCoy was owener- and general manager-driven, according to multiple sources.

Executive Tony Wyllie strongly denied that, telling ESPN it was the "coach [Jay Gruden's] decision, and the owner has nothing to do with it -- scratch that."

Dan Snyder and GM Bruce Allen are strong supporters of Griffin and they believe the timing is right for him to return to starting after his Week 2 ankle injury.

Griffin III's support with players, however, is not as strong as it is with the highest levels of the organization, according to sources.

A source who familiar with the incident told ESPN's Britt McHenry that Griffin has "alienated himself" from the locker room.

About 15 teammates began shouting when Griffin began addressing the media in the locker room on Friday. Griffin and the reporters had

Washington Buses Crash Into Each Other En Route To Stadium

Nov 19, 2014 2:31 PM

Two of the Washington buses carrying players, coaches and team officials crashed into each other on their way to TCF Bank Stadium to play the Minnesota Vikings.

According to a report from Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington, the first bus stopped after the missed exit and the second one crashed into it from behind. Russini reports that some players are shaken up, there are not believed to be any major injuries as a result of the fender bender and there will be no impact on the start time of the game as a result of the accident.
