The Tennessee Titans and Marcus Mariota have finally agreed upon terms of his rookie contract.

Mariota was the final remaining unsigned first round pick. The Titans picked Mariota second overall out of Oregon.

“We are glad to have the deal with Marcus done, and I’d like to thank both Marcus and his representatives for their diligence in working with us to finalize this contract,” said Titans Executive Vice President and General Manager Ruston Webster. “We were confident that Marcus would be under contract before training camp, and we look forward to him starting his career on time with his teammates when we open camp next week. This is an exciting time for the Tennessee Titans organization, and we look forward to a bright future.”

According to Mike Florio, Mariota and the Titans agreed to partial offsets to get a deal done.

Titans Refuse To Budge On Offset Clause In Marcus Mariota's Contract

Jul 14, 2015 8:17 PM

The Tennessee Titans won't back off on their determination to have offset language in the contract of Marcus Mariota.

Mariota remains the only first round pick from 2015 to not yet sign a contract.

If the Titans give Mariota a contract without offset language, that would allow him to "double dip" and receive payment from another team as well as from the Titans should he not play out his deal.

"We've always had offset language in our player contracts. It's nothing new," Titans' interim CEO and president Steve Underwood said. "I think it is important where a high first-round draft pick is concerned, because it's the precedent. Everything that we do is precedential for the next round of contracts.

"So keeping the offset in place is something we want to be able to do going forward. And the minute you back away from the contract principle then you no longer are able to assert it going forward."

Haynesworth: You Have To Become Insane To Survive In NFL

Jul 6, 2015 1:25 PM

Albert Haynesworth wrote an open letter talking to the 14-year-old version of himself for The Players Tribune.

Haynesworth wrote about the mentality that pervades in the NFL.

"By now, you will fully understand that to survive in an NFL game, you have to work yourself up into a kind of insanity. This is what it takes. Before games, your coaches will essentially pimp you out. They’re going to use humiliation and fear as a means to make you play as hard as humanly possible. One of them will literally show you a scene from the movie Deliverance during a mid-week meeting in order to demonstrate just how badly the opponent is going to own you. You will love this, in a way. It will make you go absolutely nuts. The NFL culture will brainwash you into a certain mentality: “My opponent is trying to take food out on my mouth, and I want to embarrass him in front of his family. It disgusts me to be on the same field as him.”

"You will approach games as war. I don’t mean that as a cliche. There will be many times where you feel like your opponent is trying to steal your entire life."

Haynesworth also writes recommending he never leave the Tennessee Titans for the big money offer from Washington.

Erroneous Report About Surfing Clause In Mariota's Contract Surfaces

Jul 2, 2015 4:47 PM

There's a report that Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans have stalled on their contract talks because there is a clause preventing him from surfing.

But Mariota is not a surfer.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation tells PFT that there’s no truth to the report, and that Mariota isn’t a surfer.

“Somebody made something up here,” the source said.
