Mike Evans Sits During Anthem To Protest Trump's Election Victory

Nov 14, 2016 8:13 AM

Mike Evans sat during the national anthem prior to Sunday's Chicago Bears-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game to protest Donald Trump's victory in last week's presidential election.

"I'm not big on politics or anything like that, but I told myself, 'If this happens, America is not right right now,'" Evans said of Trump being elected. "I said this a long time ago -- when he ran, I thought it was a joke. The joke continues."

Evans said his gesture wasn't in line with Colin Kaepernick's protest on the treatment of racial minorities in the United States.

"I know Kaepernick did that," he said. "I'm doing it for a different reason, for how a reality star can be the president. That's not a good look. ... I'm not a political person, but I have common sense and I know something is not right."

NFL Now Has 10 Teams In Marijuana-Legal States

Nov 9, 2016 1:36 PM

With Tuesday's elections, 10 NFL teams play in a state where marijuana has been legalized medically or recreationally.

California and Massachusetts joined Washington and Colorado as states where marijuana can be consumed for any purpose. If the Raiders relocate to Las Vegas, that won't change as Nevada has legalized marijuana for recreational purposes.

Florida is one of various states to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The NFL previously justified their ongoing ban because federal law considers marijuana as a controlled substance.

The 49ers, Raiders, Rams, Chargers and Patriots joined the Seahawks, Broncos, Jaguars, Dolphins and Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers watched both Mike Evans and Jameis Winston suffer injuries in the team's 43-28 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.

Evans left the game after catching 11 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. He entered the NFL's concussion protocol.

"Mike played the best game I've seen him play in my time here," Dirk Koetter said. "Mike was fantastic tonight."

Winston suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter after taking a hit on a two-point conversion attempt.

"I take a lot of shots every week," Winston said. "I feel great."

In addition, running back Antone Smith left the game with a knee injury and had to be carted off the field.

The Buccaneers are 3-5 and 2.5 games back of the Falcons in the NFC South.
