Buccaneers Not Interested In Trading Away Mike Glennon

Jan 31, 2016 3:53 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not interested in trading away Mike Glennon.

Glennon has previously been a starter at quarterback for the Buccaneers and is now Jameis Winston's backup.

“I would hate to be in a position where your quarterback goes down for however many games it is and then you’re basically throwing the towel in, like a lot of teams did this year,” Licht said. “It wasn’t because they wanted to throw in the towel, that’s just the way it happened, without naming teams. Those were the same teams, a lot of them, that were inquiring about Mike Glennon at the time.”

Dirk Koetter Considered Favorite For Buccaneers' Job

Jan 8, 2016 12:28 PM

Dirk Koetter has emerged as the favorite for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coaching job.

Koetter served as offensive coordinator of the Buccaneers in 2015 and the team's decision to fire Lovie Smith may have been motivated by wanting to keep him.

Koetter was drawing interest from other teams for head coaching interviews, including the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.

Koetter was offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons from 2012 until 2014 and previously served as a head coach in college with Boise State and Arizona State.

Jason Licht is heading the search for the Bucs' new head coach.

Buccaneers Fire Lovie Smith As Head Coach

Jan 7, 2016 6:55 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired Lovie Smith in a surprising move.

Smith went 6-10 this season after the Buccaneers drafted Jameis Winston first overall.

"After careful consideration, we informed Lovie that we have decided to make a change," Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer said in a statement Wednesday night. "I want to thank Lovie for his hard work and dedication to the Buccaneers during his time here."

A Bucs coach, when contacted by ESPN's Josina Anderson, said he was surprised by the news.

"Is this true?" said the coach, who wished to remain anonymous. "We all just met with Lovie individually today. This is strange. I wonder what happened."

Smith had replaced Greg Schiano in January 2014, agreeing to a four-year contract.

"This decision was difficult on a variety of levels," Glazer said in the statement. "I am disappointed that we were not more successful these past few seasons, but we are committed to doing what is necessary to give our fans the winning team they deserve. As we move forward, General Manager Jason Licht will oversee the process for finding our next head coach."

Walking toward the locker room after the game he shouted "You like that?!" to a reporter a few times.

The towels carry the logo for the International Justice Mission, a Washington evangelical Christian human rights charitable organization that Cousins supports.
