Jameis Winston Trying To Lose Weight Before Training Camp

Jul 1, 2015 2:09 AM

Jameis Winston is hoping to lose some weight to get into better shape heading into his first NFL training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Trying to lose some weight, try to get back skinny," he said of his plans. "Right now I'm 238 (pounds), I'm trying to be my redshirt freshman year (weight), about 230. I mean, learn that playbook too, man, you can never go wrong with that."

Winston's weight was a topic for the media and fans earlier in the year, but he looked impressive during workouts.

Buccaneers Using Virtual Reality To Help Develop Jameis Winston

Jun 22, 2015 2:22 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will use a virtual reality system to help Jameis Winston develop his decision-making.

"It might be good for Jameis," offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said. "He is a film junkie. We have looked into that."

The system helps players develop the ability to keep up with the rapid pace of the NFL.

"I visualize the concept and go through my reads with no one out there," Winston told FOX Sports of his current methods. "I haven't done any virtual things. I know the Cowboys have got it."

Buccaneers Claim Tim Wright

Jun 15, 2015 5:00 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed Tim Wright off waivers.

The Buccaneers traded Wright to the New England Patriots last August and he was waived by the franchise this week.

Wright caught six touchdowns for the Patriots.

While Wright did play at Rutgers, a program near and dear to Bill Belichick's heart, he probably wasn't going to keep a roster spot over Scott Chandler, the productive veteran from Buffalo who signed with New England in March.

Jameis Winston Working Out With Bucs' No. 2 Offense

Jun 6, 2015 6:45 PM

Jameis Winston is the presumptive starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, but he worked out with the No. 2 offense on Thursday.

Lovie Smith will make Winston earn the starting job from Mike Glennon.

"Jameis and everybody else have to earn their position," Smith said, via the Tampa Bay Times. "Jameis is getting his first-team reps. You guys are here on Thursday, and Wednesday he was with the first group then. Don't look too much into that. We just want the guys we think can play to get reps, and we want them to work with a lot of different combinations.

"Jameis is right on schedule. We're not disappointed or anything like that in him."
