NFL Exec: Oakland Has No Viable Plan To Keep Raiders

Aug 12, 2015 2:01 AM

NFL owners held a meeting in Chicago on Tuesday to discuss a possible relocation to Los Angeles.

The Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams all have interest in relocating to Los Angeles.

"The facts on the ground are that there's been no viable proposal to the Raiders," executive vice president of NFL ventures and business operations Eric Grubman said after the Special League Meeting on Los Angeles. "... As of yet, there's no proposal for the Raiders to consider."

Added Grubman: "If a proposal is made at any stage, and it's not actionable ... it's really not something the club could act upon."

Aug 8, 2015 4:29 AM

Nick Foles and the St. Louis Rams have agreed upon a two-year extension through 2017 worth just over $24.5 million.

Foles will receive almost $14 million in guaranteed money.

Foles can void the final year of the deal based on Pro Bowl or team performance.

Foles was due $1.5 million in the final season of his rookie contract.

The Rams acquired Foles this past offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles.

L.A. Coliseum Offers To Host One NFL Team

Jul 9, 2015 11:00 PM

USC, which operates the Coliseum, confirmed Thursday it will submit a proposal to the NFL. But under the terms of USC's lease with the Coliseum Commission, the university can host only one team at the stadium on a temporary basis of up to four years.

"USC will be responding to the NFL's RFP [request for proposal] and we hope to welcome an NFL team into the Coliseum starting in the 2016 season," Todd Dickey, USC's senior vice president for administration, said in a written statement.

The Rose Bowl decision was especially surprising because in 2005, when the venue gave up its bid to be a permanent NFL home, Pasadena funded an environmental impact report to position the Rose Bowl as a temporary site.

Rose Bowl Not Interested In Being Temporary NFL Home

Jul 9, 2015 10:52 PM

Officials of the Rose Bowl do not want their stadium to serve as a temporary home for an NFL team that relocates to Los Angeles.

The RBOC, which runs the Pasadena stadium, decided it was more productive and lucrative for the Rose Bowl to pursue a music and arts festival, which would take place annually during three days in June.

“We believe that a music and arts festival is more fitting with Pasadena's brand and with the future of the stadium,” said Victor Gordo, RBOC president and a member of the Pasadena City Council. “With our desire to have certainty of finances of the stadium, and to have a world-class event that's fitting of the city.”

NFL Could Use 27,000-Seat Soccer Stadium As Temporary L.A. Venue

Jun 27, 2015 9:58 AM

The NFL has considered moving a team to the StubHub Center in Carson, California as a temporary home for a relocated team to Los Angeles.

The venue is home to the L.A. Galaxy of the MLS and seats just 27,000.

Other temporary stadiums under consideration are the Rose Bowl (where UCLA plays), the L.A. Coliseum (where USC plays) and Major League Baseball’s Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium. All of those are much larger than the StubHub Center, but all of them might also have scheduling conflicts with an NFL team.

Raiders Have No Interest In Moving To St. Louis

May 20, 2015 12:55 AM

Mark Davis has no interest in moving the Oakland Raiders to St. Louis.

The St. Louis Rams are considering moving to Los Angeles and there could be a stadium plan in place for a potential NFL team in that city.

Davis wishes to keep the Raiders in Oakland, though a significant gap in the funding of a new stadium in the Bay Area remains a looming problem.

The Raiders are also working on a potential stadium plan in Carson, California.

NFL Optimistic Team Will Move To L.A. By 2016

May 19, 2015 1:59 PM

The NFL has a growing confidence that a team will relocate to Los Angeles by 2016.

One source said they’re “confident there’ll be multiple options” and that’s no surprise, given Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s Hollywood Park project and the Carson project, which is being spearheaded by former 49ers executive Carmen Policy, as a potential home for the Raiders and Chargers.

The progress in St. Louis is described as “steady,” while Oakland has “moved backward since March.”

Jets Trade For Zac Stacy

May 2, 2015 6:49 PM

The St. Louis Rams have traded Zac Stacy to the New York Jets for a seventh round pick.

Stacy became expendable when the Rams drafted Todd Gurley 10th overall.

Stacy expressed his surprise to the Rams' selection of Gurley on Twitter, responding, "Yikes." He quickly deleted the tweet.

The Jets went into the draft looking for a running back, hoping to add competition to a growing backfield. Stacy will join Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Stevan Ridley and Daryl Richardson.
