NFL Could Use 27,000-Seat Soccer Stadium As Temporary L.A. Venue

Jul 1, 2015 2:09 AM

The NFL has considered moving a team to the StubHub Center in Carson, California as a temporary home for a relocated team to Los Angeles.

The venue is home to the L.A. Galaxy of the MLS and seats just 27,000.

Other temporary stadiums under consideration are the Rose Bowl (where UCLA plays), the L.A. Coliseum (where USC plays) and Major League Baseball’s Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium. All of those are much larger than the StubHub Center, but all of them might also have scheduling conflicts with an NFL team.

Eric Weddle: Chargers Don't Have Me In Long-Term Plans

Jun 17, 2015 12:16 PM

Eric Weddle said the San Diego Chargers have misrepresented the nature of their contract talks.

"Despite our attempts to discuss an extension on multiple occasions, unfortunately the desire has not been mutual," Weddle said. "Contrary to what has recently been said by upper management, there has never been any financial numbers discussed, and the Chargers have never put an offer on the table for us to consider.

"It's obvious that I'm not part of this organization's long-term plan. The NFL is a business, and I can accept that. I just wish the organization had been up-front with me from Day 1."

Weddle is entering the final season of his contract at the age of 30 and has skipped the Chargers' voluntary workouts.

Weddle is the only safety in the NFL named first or second-team All-Pro for five straight seasons. Weddle is scheduled to make $7.5 million in base salary in the final year of a five-year, $40 million deal.

The San Diego Chargers have decided to table extension talks with Eric Weddle until the 2015 offseason.

Weddle has been skipping OTAs in hopes of a new contract.

Weddle expects to test free agency.

The Chargers' Defensive Player of the Year three of the past four seasons, Weddle told the San Diego Tribune in April that he felt "highly disrespected" by the organization.
