Carson Wentz Sneaks Game Film Into Date Nights

Sep 22, 2016 2:48 PM

Carson Wentz has been caught watching game film under the dinner table during date nights with his fiance.

Wentz and Melissa Uhrich are high school sweethearts and maintained their relationship while at different colleges.

“I told NFL scouts, if you ask him to work 60 hours, he’s going to work 80 hours,” North Dakota State offensive coordinator Tim Polasek told CBS Sports in March. “In that off time, he’s going to be with his two companions — his dog and he’s got a significant other.”

Wentz and Uhrich will live separately until their wedding in the offseason.

Pederson Sees 'Lot Of Similarities' Between Wentz, Roethlisberger

Sep 20, 2016 4:33 PM

Ahead of Sunday's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, Doug Pederson says he sees a lot of similarities between rookie Carson Wentz and Super Bowl winner Ben Roethlisberger.

Both quarterbacks are listed at 6-foot-5 and roughly 240 pounds and each was a first round pick from a lesser-known program.

"Carson has the ability to extend plays with his legs; Ben is big, strong, physical in the pocket, hard to bring down and continues to have great vision down the field," Pederson said. "I think that's one of Carson's strengths, is he continues to have that vision down the field when things begin to break down.

"So, yeah, there's a lot of similarities there. And the fact that they're both very good throwers outside the pocket is a tribute to both of them."

Roethlisberger went an amazing 13-0 as a starter during the regular season in his rookie year and was a Super Bowl champion by age 23.

Wentz has completed 61 percent of his passes for 468 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers to help the Eagles jump out to a 2-0 record.

"Carson is doing a great job of making reads and getting them in good plays and maybe getting them out of some bad plays," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "He's showing great maturity for a young guy from that perspective in terms of the amount of communication he's involved with. ... Those who are successful generally don't play like rookies."

Eagles' Lane Johnson Begins Appeal Process On 10-Game Ban

Sep 20, 2016 8:05 AM

Lane Johnson has scheduled an appeal hearing on Oct. 4 as he attempts to avoid a potential 10-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy for a second time, according to a source.

Johnson is eligible to play for the Philadelphia Eagles through the appeals process.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, who first reported the news, said a ruling by the independent arbitrator is expected shortly after Johnson's hearing.

If he loses the appeal, the suspension would start Oct. 9 and Allen Barbre would likely move from left guard to right tackle for the Eagles.

Doug Pederson Will Stand By Players In Teamwide Gesture

Sep 17, 2016 3:11 PM

Doug Pederson may join his Philadelphia Eagles in a team-wide protest during the national anthem on Monday.

"If they wanted to do something teamwide, I would definitely be for that," Pederson explained. "I think it just shows unity, and there's no division that way. And I think it sends a great message that from our standpoint and the National Football League and the platform and as individuals, we love this country and what it represents and the flag and the national anthem and everything.

"Listen, we're not perfect, obviously, and for us to stand sort of united that way would be -- I would be OK for that."

Malcolm Jenkins initiated the discussion about a potential protest by Eagles players on Monday night, in the same vein as other demonstrations that permeated throughout the league in Week 1.

Zach Ertz Dealing With Displaced Rib, Considered Week-To-Week

Sep 12, 2016 3:54 PM

Zach Ertz suffered a first-rib displacement near his left shoulder on Sunday and the Philadelphia Eagles are considering the tight end week-to-week at this point.

"The rib has displaced itself underneath the collarbone, but it's not a fracture or a broken bone," Doug Pederson said.

Pederson expects Ertz will probably have to be cleared medically before he plays again.

"It's a dangerous situation with a displaced bone because you're talking up around the neck and head area, so any type of blow again could do further damage to that," Pederson said. "That's why it's a week-to-week deal."

Eagles Trade 2015 2nd Rounder Eric Rowe To Patriots

Sep 6, 2016 1:18 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are trading defensive back Eric Rowe to the New England Patriots in exchange for offensive lineman Josh Kline and a draft pick.

The Eagles are already in talks to trade Kline to another team.

Rowe was selected in the second round of the 2015 draft, which was overseen by Chip Kelly.

The 23-year-old was inconsistent, but showed enough promise to be considered a potential starting option heading into this season.

Rowe played safety and corner at Utah. The Eagles viewed him as a corner, but some evaluators thought he would make a better safety coming out of college.

Vikings Acquire Sam Bradford From Eagles

Sep 4, 2016 8:59 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired Sam Bradford from the Philadelphia Eagles for a first round pick and a fourth round pick.

The Vikings felt forced to trade for an established quarterback after losing Teddy Bridgewater for the entire 2016 season. Due to the severity of Bridgewater's injury, his status for 2017 remains completely unknown.

Bradford re-signed with the Eagles in March to a two-year, $35 million deal with $22 million fully guaranteed. The Eagles would be responsible for Bradford's $11 million signing bonus. The remainder of his contract with $20 million in base salaries and a $4 million roster bonus on March 2017 will go to the Vikings.

Vikings tight ends coach Pat Shurmur was Bradford's offensive coordinator with the Eagles last season and for two seasons (2009-2010) with the Rams.

Carson Wentz will become the Eagles' starter at quarterback. The Eagles traded up in this year's draft to select Wentz second overall.

According to Pro Football Talk, Bradford is "thrilled" by the trade to the Vikings.
