Howie Roseman: Eagles Made Mistakes Paying 'Guys Who Aren't Our Own'

Jun 30, 2016 8:37 AM

Howie Roseman prefers to build an NFL team by drafting well and keeping his own players.

The Philadelphia Eagles general manager says the team faltered last year by going too hard after free agents who ultimately didn't produce.

"When you look at it, some of the mistakes we've made have been going out and spending a lot of money," Roseman said. "A lot of those mistakes were on guys that aren't our own. They were guys that we've brought from another organization, and we thought we knew."

Roseman didn't identify players by name, but he was clearly referring to DeMarco Murray and Byron Maxwell.

Eagles Plan To Make Carson Wentz Inactive For Games

Jun 28, 2016 8:08 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles have said they'll be patient with Carson Wentz and they currently plan to make the quarterback inactive on game days.

Sam Bradford is slated to begin the season as Philadelphia's starter with Chase Daniel as the No. 2.

Many teams only suit up two quarterbacks on game days now that the NFL has eliminated the "emergency quarterback" rule.

Howie Roseman Explains Eagles' Offseason Spending Surge

Jun 17, 2016 2:17 PM

Howie Roseman has justified the Philadelphia Eagles' offseason spending spree to recapture the stability the franchise had during the main part of the Andy Reid era.

The Eagles are stripping away many of the moves made by Chip Kelly.

“When we sat down and looked at our roster, we felt like there were a bunch of players we wanted to keep here,” Roseman said. “And for us to have a run of sustained success like we were fortunate to have from 1999 to 2008, where we went to five championship games, that we needed some continuity.

“There’s been a lot of change. I take responsibility for a lot of change that has been made, but going forward, we’re hoping to not have that change. And the longer that we wait on contracts for players, the closer they get to free agency, the more it’s going to cost us. It’s just the nature of the game. . . . That requires doing some things early. That requires some risk on our part.”

Sam Bradford Establishing Himself As Eagles' Top Quarterback In OTAs

Jun 4, 2016 3:24 PM

Sam Bradford has established himself as the Philadelphia Eagles' top quarterback during organized team activities, according to Doug Pederson.

"I think he's done an outstanding job," Pederson said. "Again, when you're spreading reps equally, with three guys, that's what you want to see, and I think he's really done a nice job and taken that next step to be the leader of this football team and be the starter. He's done a good job there."

The Eagles traded up to pick Carson Wentz with the second overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Bradford will be the starter when the Eagles begin the season with Chase Daniel second on the depth chart followed by Wentz.
