Howie Roseman took responsibility for the Philadelphia Eagles' decision to select Marcus Smith in the first round of 2014, but the decision sparked a feud that eventually ended with Chip Kelly's firing.

Roseman and the Eagles' scouting department had minimal input over the three drafts during Chip Kelly's tenure as head coach.

"Right before that draft, the scouts set the board," the person said Tuesday. "Then Chip got a hold of it and totally turned it around. Scouts had no say at all in that draft. Anybody that Chip didn't want, that player's card got removed from the board and thrown in the trash. Those guys were never even in the discussion.

"Almost immediately, you had a lot of scouts looking around and wondering, 'Why am I even working? Why the hell are we even here?' We put all of this work in, put the information in and Chip changed everything and took whoever he wanted to take."

The source said Kelly's unorthodox approach to draft night immediately alienated several members of the front office and scouting department.

Kelly and Tom Gamble had a semi-functional collaboration. 

"The Eagles brought in some of Tom's guys to make some changes in the scouting department, and Howie's guys were kind of pushed aside a little bit," the person said. "Howie really wasn't listened to. Chip would listen to Gamble, but he wouldn't listen to Howie. It just wasn't a good relationship.

"Everything hit the fan after that (2014) season. Chip left town almost immediately. Howie fired [Gamble] and then Chip gets hold of it, comes right back to the building and put his foot down [to owner Jeffrey Lurie].

"I knew right there it was the beginning of the end for Chip. He did everything he wanted. He had to win and win big to hold onto his job after that season. Meanwhile, Howie was away from personnel decisions, preparing to be back in charge, if that chance ever came."

Rueben Randle has agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Randle had spent his first four NFL seasons with the New York Giants after being a second round pick in the 2012 draft out of LSU.

Randle had a two-game stretch at the end of 2014 in which he had 12 catches for 290 yards. Randle clashed with coaches due to chronic lateness for meetings.

Randle had eight touchdown catches this past season, but only one game over 100 receiving yards.

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded away DeMarco Murray, Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso but it's not about simply getting rid of the players brought in by Chip Kelly.

"It's never been about Chip Kelly's guys," Doug Pederson told the NFL Network on Monday. "To me, it's about the Philadelphia Eagles and how can we better our roster and better our football team? I feel like with Howie Roseman and myself, we've been able to do that this offseason.

"We're always going to look to better your team. If you're not, you're not moving forward. I don't look at it that way. I just look at it as Philadelphia Eagles and players that we bring in or lose. You're going to lose them anyway."

In his appearance on the NFL Network, Pederson said he expected his team to contend in 2016.

"I'll tell you what, high expectations right now," Pederson said. "Looking forward to this season -- a team that's going to be competitive, a team that's going to be there at the end. I want this team to understand that we're going to work. We're going to work hard from Day 1. It starts April 4 with OTAs for us."

The Philadelphia Eagles have parted ways with many of Chip Kelly's players and behind the scenes hires but they've kept sports science czar Shawn Huls.

Huls earned credit for forward-thinking beliefs about nutrition.

Huls created a personalized smoothie regimen.

"Chip brought in a lot of great ideas and great people," Roseman told TheMMQB.com's Peter King. "Shaun and sports science are both examples of that."

The Denver Broncos have traded for Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles for a second round pick.

The Broncos will continue to pursue Colin Kaepernick despite trading for Sanchez.

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to sign Brandon Brooks to a five-year, $40 million deal.

Brooks is a guard who has been with the Houston Texans since 2012.

Brooks had strong seasons in 2013 and 2014 before taking a step back in 2015.

Chase Daniel has agreed to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Doug Pederson wanted the Eagles to sign Daniel regardless of how the situation with Sam Bradford played out.

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Leodis McKelvin to a two-year, $6 million deal.

McKelvin was the 11th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.

McKelvin was waived shortly before the start of free agency.

McKelvin will be reuniting with Jim Schwartz who was the defensive coordinator in Buffalo from 2014-2015.

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to trade for DeMarco Murray with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Murray signed with the Eagles last offseason after Chip Kelly traded LeSean McCoy away to the Buffalo Bills.

During the 2014 season, Murray rushed for 1,845 yards with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell to the Miami Dolphins for pick compensation.

Alonso and Maxwell were two prominent additions to the Eagles' defense made last offseason by Chip Kelly.

Maxwell agreed to a six-year, $63 million contract, but was inconsistent in coverage and recorded just two interceptions and 64 tackles.

The Dolphins were ranked 25th in total defense last season and struggled against both the run and pass.
