Lane Johnson Files Claims Against NFL, NFLPA

Nov 23, 2016 8:17 AM

Lane Johnson has filed charges against the NFL and NFL Players Association with the National Labor Relations Board, according to his attorney.

"Lane also filed a complaint against the NFLPA with the Department of Labor under the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act," a statement from attorney Steve Zashin reads.

"During Lane's appeal, it became apparent that the written words in the collectively bargained Performance-Enhancing Substances ("PES") Policy, under which Lane was disciplined, are meaningless."

"The PES Policy, as written, guarantees rights, protections and due process to players in recognition of the enormous consequences of discipline," the statement continues.

"The NFL and the NFLPA have undermined these protections, leaving the players -- including Lane -- with a hollowed-out process devoid of any protections. The actions of the NFL and NFLPA violate federal law.

"Lane trusts that he can get a fair hearing with the NLRB and the DOL."

Johnson is currently serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy for a second time. He believes the positive test was the result of taking an amino acid he purchased online that was contaminated. Johnson said at the time that he checked the contents on the label with an app provided by the NFLPA.

Eagles Called Seahawks To Complain About Russell Wilson Pick In 2012

Nov 18, 2016 7:16 AM

Andy Reid, then coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, called Pete Carroll angrily after the Seattle Seahawks picked Russell Wilson 75th overall in 2012.

Reid and the Eagles were hoping to draft Wilson 13 picks later.

Reid is now the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Eagles will take on the Seahawks this Sunday afternoon.

"I don't think (Seahawks GM John Schneider) specifically thought the Eagles were any more of a threat than other teams -- I don't know that -- but I know that Andy called us right after the pick, though, and gave John some trouble about it," Carroll said. "They're old friends. But we were really sweating it out. We wanted him the whole way, and John had it figured obviously perfectly for us to get it done. There were a couple other teams that called in right after that, too. Andy was the first guy to call, though. We felt very fortunate.

"(Andy) was just giving John a hard time for taking his guy. Kind of regular banter that happens during the draft."

Browns 'Really Like' Decision To Trade Carson Wentz

Nov 18, 2016 2:13 PM

The Cleveland Browns have been in a perpetual search for a quarterback, starting 26 different players at the position since 1999.

Cleveland traded away the second overall pick that became Carson Wentz to the Philadelphia Eagles for an extra first rounder in 2017 and extra second rounders in 2017 and 2018.

“We always look back on our decisions,” Sashi Brown said when asked about passing on Wentz. “You try to be as thorough as possible going in, and as humble as possible coming out. Are there things we could have, and should have, done differently? That said, we really like the decision we made. I think it’s dangerous to start evaluating decisions once you have information you didn’t have going into them. And our trade, really, hasn’t even borne all its fruits.”

Ben Roethlisberger 'Blown Away' Browns Didn't Draft Carson Wentz

Nov 17, 2016 10:46 AM

Ben Roethlisberger, who said earlier this season that he was "really surprised" the Cleveland Browns didn't draft Carson Wentz with the second overall pick, took it one step further on Wednesday.

"I thought for sure he was going to Cleveland," Roethlisberger said. "There was not a doubt in my mind that he wasn't a perfect AFC North quarterback, a great fit for you guys and everything. Then when everything transpired, I was blown away by it, but you never know.

"It's early in his career. You hate to jump to conclusions and call him the same thing as me, who has been in the league for 13 years, but only time will tell if that same thing kind of happened there, too."

Roethlisberger and Wentz share an agent. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback admits that he's still fueled by being passed over by the Browns at No. 6 in 2004.

Eagles Release Josh Huff

Nov 3, 2016 4:09 PM

Josh Huff has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles two days after he was arrested and charged with possessing an unloaded 9 mm handgun without a permit, a magazine that had six hollow-point bullets and a small amount of marijuana.

In a statement released to ESPN's Adam Caplan, Huff said, "First, I want to apologize to Mr. Lurie and his family, my coaches and teammates, and all Eagles fans. I'm sorry that any action by me brought negative light to this organization. I want to thank the Lurie Family, Howie [Roseman], this community and the entire Eagles organization for the opportunity I've had for the past 3 years. Most important, I want to let the fans and community as a whole know that I understand the responsibility I have as a professional athlete, and I will take all measures necessary to correct mistakes I have made."

Huff had practiced with the team Wednesday.

Asked whether he believes everybody in the Eagles locker room and around the league carries a gun, Huff said, "I do. Yes, I do."

Huff was arrested on the gun and drug charges after he was pulled over for speeding on the Walt Whitman Bridge on the New Jersey side.
