Aldon Smith Has Applied For Reinstatement

Oct 29, 2016 10:06 AM

Aldon Smith has applied for reinstatement to the NFL, Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie says.

Smith's one-year suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy ends Nov. 17. He is out of rehab, according to sources, and McKenzie said that Smith is working hard to return to the Raiders pending a meeting with Roger Goodell.

"Aldon is doing well," McKenzie said. "That situation is going to be totally up to the league because he's been in the program and they've monitored him. It's up to Goodell to say, 'Yea, nay or when.' And he could say no to everything. ... That part is out of our hands.

"The league will take everything into consideration and Aldon will have to meet with Goodell at some point."

Mark Davis: Oakland 'Was In Driver's Seat But Came Up With Nothing'

Oct 19, 2016 4:41 PM

Mark Davis hasn't ruled out keeping the Raiders in Oakland but publicly lamented their lack of action.

Las Vegas and the state of Nevada are pledging $750 million to build a new stadium, which is something taxpayers in the Bay Area have been unwilling to do across all sports. Both the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers financed their current stadiums with private money, as will the Golden State Warriors.

"Oakland was in the driver's seat if they could've put together anything," Davis said Wednesday. "They came up with nothing.

"Las Vegas has already done what it is supposed to do and we have to bring it up to the National Football League and get permission to move to Las Vegas."

Roger Goodell supported Davis' assertion there has been no movement toward keeping the franchise in the Bay Area, saying "we have been working to see if there are alternatives and we don't have one" in Oakland.

NFL Appears To Have No Hesitation About Playing In Vegas

Oct 19, 2016 2:42 PM

The Oakland Raiders gave a presentation about their current stadium situation to the NFL's other owners on Wednesday.

Roger Goodell said they’re still collecting information about Nevada’s plan to build an NFL stadium and whether having the Raiders in Vegas would work for the league.

“There’s still a great deal of information that we need to gather with respect to the circumstances we see in Las Vegas, the opportunities and the challenges,” Goodell said.

Goodell did not express any hesitation about playing in Las Vegas at all.

Nevada Governor Signs Bill For Raiders' Las Vegas Stadium

Oct 17, 2016 7:38 PM

Brian Sandoval, governor of Nevada, signed a bill on Monday that clears the way for the Raiders to build a stadium in Las Vegas.

Sandoval and Mark Davis joined hardhat-wearing construction workers and mask-wearing Raiders fans for the ceremony at UNLV.

"Las Vegas is ready for this. Nevada is ready for this," Sandoval said in an interview afterward. "The best brand on the planet is coming together with one of the best brands in professional sports. It is truly one of those situations where 1+1(equals)3."

Nevada lawmakers narrowly approved a deal in a special session last week that increases hotel taxes in the Las Vegas area to raise $750 million for a stadium and more than $400 million to expand and upgrade the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Sheldon Adelson is putting $650 million toward the project, while the Raiders and the NFL will kick in $500 million. C

Raiders Would Remain In Oakland For 2017, 2018 With Vegas Move

Oct 15, 2016 8:07 PM

The Raiders plan to play at the Oakland Coliseum in 2017 and 2018 even if their plan to relocate to Las Vegas is approved.

"We want to bring a Super Bowl championship back to the Bay Area," Mark Davis said.

Davis and the Raiders have the financing plan in place for a $1.9 billion stadium to be built in Las Vegas after the Nevada state legislature on Friday approved a tax plan to raise $750 million toward the project.

Davis then will travel to Houston for the NFL fall meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday to give the league an update on the Raiders' stadium progress, as will the Los Angeles Rams and San Diego Chargers.

The Raiders would need 24 of the 32 NFL owners to vote in favor of the move at the league meetings in January.

Mark Davis and the Oakland Raiders released a statement on the Las Vegas vote.

"All parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project that will serve as a proud new home for the entire Raider Nation."
