Victor Cruz Signs One-Year Deal With Bears

May 28, 2017 12:49 AM

Victor Cruz has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears.

Cruz, 30, joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of UMass in 2010 and quickly made his mark. He starred on their Super Bowl XLVI-winning team in 2011 and had 303 catches, 4,549 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns during his time with the Giants.

The Bears were thin at wide receiver following the departure of Alshon Jeffery.

Cruz is 2½ years removed from major knee surgery and would have counted for $9.4 million against the Giants' salary cap in 2017. New York freed up $7.5 million in cap space with his release.

According to sources with knowledge of the deal, Beckham's contract is a five-year deal worth in the neighborhood of $5 million a year -- the richest shoe deal for an NFL player.

The deal will make Beckham a larger brand spokesman for Nike, including campaigns outside of football. Adidas wanted to sign the wide receiver away from Nike, which drove up the value.

Giants Aren't Ready To Call Davis Webb Eli Manning's Heir Apparent

May 10, 2017 8:21 AM

It's possible that Davis Webb, who the New York Giants selected in the third round of this year's draft, will eventually replace Eli Manning at quarterback.

The Giants, however, aren't ready to make that proclamation.

"I think it's a little premature to be anointing this guy as the heir apparent to Eli, he hasn't set foot on the field yet. But he's got a lot of talent and we're looking forward to seeing what we got when he gets here," John Mara said on The Rich Eisen Show.

"As Bill Parcells used to say, let's not get his bust ready for Canton just yet. Listen he's a talented guy, but let's let him get on the field, let's let him get on the field, let's let him play in the preseason and develop. If he's the successor, that's great. If not, we'll find somebody else."

Manning turned 36 in January.
