Adrian Peterson: Grind, Not Age, Will Cause Him To Walk Away

Jun 23, 2016 9:22 AM

Adrian Peterson believes he can still dominate at age 31, but the running back admitted that the toll his body has taken will be what leads him to walk away from football.

"That's it," Peterson said. "Training camp, going through the grind, OTAs and all that -- that will definitely be the deciding factor. Physically, body-wise, I'll be good. It's just mentally -- like with OTAs, I'm out there practicing, I'm going, I'm putting in work. But it's so repetitive that it's more suited toward the young guys and getting them into the system. It gets kind of boring."

Peterson needs 6,681 yards to break Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record.

Adrian Peterson: Super Bowl Or Bust For Vikings

Jun 15, 2016 3:56 PM

Adrian Peterson believes that everyone on the Minnesota Vikings should be carrying Super Bowl expectations.

"We have a long way to go, but we have the pieces of what it takes to accomplish that. So there's nothing wrong with saying it," Peterson said. "If any other guy on this team don't feel that way, we should trade him and bring somebody in that feels that [we can win a Super Bowl]. We all know what we are trying to accomplish and I feel like we have what it takes."

The Vikings won the NFC North title last season. Peterson turned 31 in March and lives in Houston, the site of the Super Bowl next February, during the offseason.

The agreement will make Smith the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

Smith will earn $51.25 million over the next five years, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter, including a $10 million signing bonus. The contract includes $28.578 million guaranteed against injury and his contract runs through 2021, according to a source.

He was already scheduled to play on his fifth-year option this year. Smith was a first-round pick in 2012.
